Fun Machine

24 May - 1 June 2022

LEVEL Centre, Derbyshire

In the Spring of 2022 Brew Projects took part in Residency LAB at the LEVEL Centre, Derbyshire. This project provided Brew the opportunity to complete a residency, living in Derbyshire and working at the centre for a week, culminating in an online take over. The LEVEL Lab residency is a research and development opportunity for professional artists who either identify as disabled or whose work is suitable for learning disabled adults and the wider community working across visual, digital and performing arts.

Using the theme of play and accessibility Beth Lambert and Laura Mabbutt designed an artwork in collaboration with LEVEL visitors, where their input was vital. The public were invited to engage in a series of prompts online to contribute to the creation of the Fun Machine. Online participants choose the colours, shapes as well as the methods of how the machine was created. The work resulted in a playful fair ground inspired installation at the LEVEL Centre which included audio, tactile features and scent. The Fun Machine also included elements of augmented reality so that it could be viewed with a smart device like a phone or a tablet. Workshops

As part of the residency at LEVEL Centre we delivered a series of bespoke workshops that engaged with the themes in our work. These workshops created opportunities for participants to create artwork and craft objects playfully, inspired by process art and engaging the senses.

Film

Brew Projects created a short film of their time at the LEVEL Centre and the community of groups and visitors and members of staff they worked with during the residency, capturing their experiences and the artwork created.
