Nature Machine

Brew Projects have built on their previous experience at Level Centre, working with the ideas and the successes implemented in their 2021 residency. In Nature Machine Brew continue to create accessible experiences for audiences including those with disabilities and who experience social isolation, with artworks visitors can touch as well as see and hear. The show features the artwork Cabinet of Curiosities, a large wooden cabinet structure which contains smaller artworks that are hidden inside drawers and cupboards for visitors to find. The experience blends Brew Project’s background in craft and design with their experimental practice in working with digital technologies.

Nature Machine celebrates Derbyshire’s local biodiversity and local history and has been inspired by the artists’ trips to the county, including their visits to the Nine Ladies Stone Circle and the collections at Bakewell House Museum.

Alongside the exhibition Brew Projects will be delivering a series of free workshops and special events alongside this show, where they will encourage members of the public to design and craft their own artworks that will be added to the exhibition itself, creating collaborative artwork in the gallery which will grow as the exhibition continues.

For visitors who may find the main exhibition space intimidating or overwhelming Brew have included a small exhibition in the corridor space which features a behind the scenes look at how the exhibition was created and is complete with samples from the main gallery that visitors can explore with their senses.
